Half Time Retreat

October 8, 15, and 22, 2020 from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

What is Half Time?

Are you a second-year student? Do you have questions about your purpose, major, or eventual career? Would you like more resources to help you achieve your goals? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then we hope you'll join us for Half Time!
Half Time occurs just about halfway through your time at USD. It's the perfect chance to look back on what's been meaningful to you, and to look forward with excitement as you take on more relationships, job opportunities, and big questions. Not only will Half Time help you start to answer some of those big questions, but it will connect you with mentors who are here to support you along the rest of your college journey.
This year Half Time will occur through three one-hour sessions across three weeks. We'll gather from 5:30-6:30pm on October 8th, 15th, and 22nd. You can register up for 1, 2, or all 3 events - choose what most excites you!
Sign up by clicking the links below. Registration closes on the Monday night prior to the event (for example, registration closes on October 5th for the October 8th event, and so on). There is no cost for this experience. We only ask that you come with an open mind and willingness to explore!
Here's our line-up:
October 8: Alumni Panel with Q&A. We'll kick off our series with an Alumni Panel! You'll hear from 3-4 USD alumni who vary in professional fields (engineering, social work, therapy, and medicine). They'll share what their hopes and plans were in college, how or if those changed over time, and the steps they took to get where they are now. After they speak, we'll open the floor for your questions! This is an amazing opportunity to network with incredible alumni and envision where you might be in 5, 10, or 25 years post-USD! Previous Half Time participants have landed internships and jobs through the Alumni Panel.
October 15: Design Your Life. Join us for an interactive, fun, and insightful event using the materials from the New York Times Best Selling Book Design Your Life. Meet new people, explore possibilities and engage in discernment while taking part in group and individual activities designed to help you to uncover, visualize and refine ideas for your journey as a Second Year Student. Come ready to brainstorm, prototype, and crowd source as you continue your USD adventure exploring ways to build a well lived, joyful life! This session is facilitated by University Minister Annette Welsh.
October 22: Discover Your Strengths. There are many strengths associated with success—which are yours?  This session will lead you through activities to identify your strengths and understand how they shape you as a person. Discover what you naturally do best and receive customized results to help you live your best life! Participants will take the CliftonStrengths assessment online beforehand. This session is facilitated by Emily Baxt and Sue Kelly from USD's Career Development Center.
