UM Small Groups

Sign up to be a part of a University Ministry virtual small group this semester on the form below!  You will receive an email with the corresponding zoom link from one of the facilitators listed.  Sign-ups will continue throughout the Spring semester - whenever you are ready, just fill out the form!  We hope that all groups are an opportunity for students to make great friends, experience God's love and reflect on what is happening in their lives.  All times listed are PST.  Groups will begin meeting the week of February 1, 2021.

  • BIPOC   
    Wednesdays at 7pm
    A faith sharing group for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) students.This will be a group to explore our identities in light of our faith and spirituality. We hope to create a safe space for students to bring their intersectional identities, backgrounds and experiences, and know that they have a community to lean on. The hope is that through this faith-sharing group, we can cultivate a sense of belonging and connection amongst BIPOC students. Facilitated by Brooke Silvas (
  • Catholic Social Teaching
    Wednesdays at 6pm
    Pope Paul VI once said, "If you want peace, work for justice". If this quote sparks your interest, we invite you to join the Catholic Social Teaching (CST) small group! CST draws on the tradition of the church that calls us to stand in solidarity with the poor and vulnerable and struggle for a more just world. Join us for weekly reflection on the seven themes of CST so we can strive together to practice a faith that does justice. Facilitated by Jessica Brophy (
  • Discernment
    Thursdays at  7pm
    A space for students to discern God's calling in their lives. Open to students in all areas of the discernment process, this group is for those considering decisions like their major, campus involvements, and post-graduate plans. In addition to discussion and reflection activities, we will share practical tools to navigate your discernment process. As a whole, this group is a space to help provide clarity and encouragement throughout the big decisions in your lives. Facilitated by Miranda Maher ( and Alec Hartman (
  • First Year Students 
    Mondays at 5pm
    Small groups provide space for students to be their authentic selves and bring their stories and experiences to be shared with one another. This space encourages first year students to reflect on their experiences and find meaning in their time at USD. It is a space of support, inclusivity, love and community.   • Lives of the Saints & Prophets
    Thursdays at 5:30pm
    Pray with the saints this semester! We'll learn about saints and prophets from around the world, how they responded to humanity's urgent challenges, and share about our own faith journeys. Facilitated by Sr. Maria Dela Paz, OSF ( and Alejandro Marquez (
  • Men's Group
    Mondays at 9pm
    A group for male-identifying students as a way to spiritually connect with other men on campus and is filled with the opportunity for community, support, insight and laughter!  Facilitated by Fr. Mike White, C.S.Sp. (
  • Praying the Bible
    Tuesdays at 8pm
    Lectio Divina is the ancient practice of prayerfully reading and reflecting on a passage from scripture that brings it alive for you today! You will hear God's word for you spoken through biblical phrases and the reflections shared by yourself and others. You will be amazed at what unfolds for you over the semester in pages of the bible, your own heart, and the sharing of other students. The same Holy Spirit that inspired the evangelists is present and active when we gather together in Jesus' name to pray the bible together! Facilitated by Fr. Robert Capone (
  • Spectrum (LGBTQIA+)
    Tuesdays at 5:30pm
    A small faith-sharing group for the LGBTQIA+ community and those exploring their gender and sexual identities. This group will spend time in community exploring the intersections between faith & identity. Along the way, we hope to share the messiness and joy of becoming more authentically ourselves!   • Torero Athletic Fellowship
    Tuesdays at 7pm

    A weekly small group that provides a space to pause, reflect, and explore dimensions of faith and spirituality amidst the demands of school and athletics. During these gatherings, we will come together to build community, reflect on where God is moving in your life, and discern what this means for you in your everyday experiences.   • Women's Group
    Mondays at 5:30pm
    Consider this a virtual coffee date with people who help you feel empowered your own skin. You'll deepen friendships with other women on campus, learn to uplift one another, explore the depth and strength of your voice, share your faith, and laugh. We cover it all - from faith, to feminism, to food. Come as you are and leave feeling more like yourself.  Facilitated by Aly Monteleone (
