 LIBR 101 Research Methods - Learning Outcomes

 By the end of this course, students should be able to do the following:

  • Understand how knowledge is organized in an academic library

  • Use a variety of methods for developing and refining research topics

  • Construct and implement effectively designed search strategies

  • Identify, critically evaluate, and correctly document a variety of relevant information sources 

  • Understand ethical issues regarding the use of information

LIBR 103 Information Literacy and Research Strategies - Learning Outcomes

 By the end of the this course, students should be able to do the following: 

  • Distinguish between information formats and the processes underlying the creation, dissemination, and consumption of those types of information

  • Discuss research as a process of developing questions and using information to answer those questions, solve problems, or support arguments

  • Effectively use a wide range of information tools to locate research

  • Support a conclusion or thesis using recognized techniques of argument analysis, argument construction, and the analysis of evidence

  • Appropriately and ethically acknowledge sources
