Professional Experience
Professor Brooks is the Director of Academic Success & Bar Programs and a Professor of Practice for the USD School of Law. Prior to joining the USD School of Law, Professor Brooks was the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and the Registrar at the University of Arizona College of Law. During his eight years at Arizona Law, Professor Brooks was the primary academic advisor for each of the 400-plus JD students, helping to craft a law school experience that matched students' hopes and goals. Other duties included maintaining the Student Handbook, working heavily on ABA and government compliance data, keeping students on track for graduation, and working with other professors in designing a new academic success program focused on increasing bar outcomes. As an adjunct professor, Professor Brooks taught 1L Legal Writing courses. Before moving to Academic Affairs, Professor Brooks was the career counselor for 1L students.
After law school, Professor Brooks clerked for Hon. Howard Fell at the Pima County Superior Court before joining the Pima County Public Defender, where he was an attorney for three years. Prior to law school, Professor Brooks was a software engineer, working on industry-leading programs used by reliability engineers.
Honors and Affiliations
Professor Brooks earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Arizona with cum laude honors. Professor Brooks's JD was also earned at the University of Arizona. Recently, Brooks obtained a Master of Science degree in Psychology from Arizona State University
