Professional Experience

Cotsirilos is a criminal law specialist in private practice, which includes defending death penalty cases both at the trial and appellate level.

Professor Cotsirilos teaches in the areas of criminal law and the death penalty.

Honors and Affiliations

Cotsirilos received the E. Stanley Conant Award for Defender Programs of San Diego for Protecting the Rights of the Indigent Accused in both 1988 and 1998 and the Trial Attorney of the Year award from the San Diego Criminal Defense Bar Association in both 1999 and 2006. He has been president of the Criminal Defense Bar Association of San Diego and co-chair of the Death Penalty Committee for the California Attorneys for Criminal Justice. Cotsirilos lectures at California's Death Penalty Seminar and Death Penalty college each year to attorneys handling capital cases and has published in the area of capital litigation.
