Professor Durst teaches Immigration Law.

Professional Experience

In addition to teaching at USD, Professor Durst is an Associate Professor at Thomas Jefferson School of Law. She became Assistant Professor at Thomas Jefferson in 1994 and has since held many roles at the school, including participating in numerous committees and serving as the director of Persuasive Legal Writing for several years. She has also served as a writing instructor at UC Irvine and New York Law School, in addition to co-founding UC Irvine’s first university sponsored literary magazine, Faultline.

Professor Durst’s legal experience includes being Of Counsel for Jackson & Nash in New York, where she litigated in federal and state courts in cases involving education, real estate, insurance coverage, professional malpractice and commercial issues, in addition to providing independent immigration representation. She has served as a law clerk to various justices for the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department.

Honors and Affiliations

Professor Durst is a volunteer for San Diego Immigration Consortium, where she mentors attorneys responsible for representing political asylum applicants, providing “Know Your Rights” information to potential asylees, and counseling potential applicants in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA). She is a former member of the board of directors for the Immigration Justice Project.
