U.S. Law and Policy Program for International Professionals

The School of Law offers a select group of visiting international scholars the opportunity to expand their career prospects by participating in the U.S. Law and Policy Program for International Professionals. Scholars are international professionals in government, business or law, seeking a mid-career opportunity to combine the intellectual stimulation of learning in the law school with the experience of living in San Diego, one of the world’s most scenic cities.

Academically, the program offers scholars short courses introducing them to the U.S. legal system and U.S. governmental policies. After completing the class requirements, each scholar pursues research in an area of interest, individually supervised by a senior law school faculty member with expertise in the scholar’s area of research. As members of the University community, scholars may attend any of the University’s frequent public events. Outside of the university, scholars experience daily life in an extraordinary setting, where beaches abound and mountains and desert are within easy reach.

Scholars may select one of three programs:

  • A 90-day program.
  • A six-month program.
  • A twelve-month program.

The six and twelve month programs begin in September and January. The 90-day program begins in January.
