Melissa Abernathy is the Legal Research Center's Associate Director of Research and Instruction, where she coordinates library outreach and engagement, and oversees faculty and student research and instruction. She is also the Foreign & International Law Specialist and teaches international legal research and presents training sessions on a variety of international legal research topics. Abernathy holds a B.S. in Biology-Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution from the University of California, San Diego, a law degree from Lewis & Clark Law School with a certificate in Environmental and Natural Resources Law, and an M.L.I.S. from the University of Washington. In law school she was a member of Animal Law Review, Environmental Law Review, and the International Environmental Law Project.
Abernathy's professional interests include foreign & international law, legal research instruction, and social justice. She currently serves as co-chair of the LRC's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Committee.
