International students are a growing part of USD’s student population. This offers opportunities for an enriched classroom environment, enhanced cultural understanding and increased global awareness for U.S. students, but it also presents special challenges. International students may bring expectations of classroom and academic culture that differ greatly from U.S. classroom culture. As faculty, how do we help our international students succeed in our courses?
This lunch and learn program, presented by Leeva Chung, PhD, (Communication Studies), Johanna Hunsaker, PhD, (Management and Organizational Behavior), and Greg Grassi, MSW (International Center), will help faculty learn more about our international students and the cultural issues that may help explain the reasons why many internationals struggle to fit in academically.
