Infant Baptism

Prayerful best wishes as you prepare to give your child the gift of Baptism into the Catholic faith! Following are some guidelines to help us facilitate the process for you.

Any Catholic may have their child baptized at The Immaculata by following the requirements of their local parish. After all requirements at the parish have been satisfied, you should request a letter of permission from your parish pastor.

Canon Law Requirements:

  • At least one parent must be a Roman Catholic
  • Consent of both parents or the responsible guardian.
  • An assurance that the child will be brought up as a Catholic.
  • A child 7 years or older must be prepared for Baptism through our parish religious education program.

It is suggested that you begin this process at least three months before the date that you would like the Baptism to take place Baptisms at The Immaculata take place on the 3rd Sunday of the month after the 11:00 Mass (except for the Season of Lent). The Baptism may be scheduled only after meeting the above requirements.

Godparents: Generally there are two godparents, one male and one female. However, only one godparent is required. Godparents must be active practicing Catholics who have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. If godparents are married, they must have a sacramental marriage. Parents should give the form to their chosen godparents who should read over the requirements. Parents would then submit the signed form to the parish office. There may be a Christian Witness in place of one of the Roman Catholic godparents. Please note that a Christian Witness is someone baptized in another Christian faith tradition that begins in the Trinity. It cannot be someone who left the Catholic Church for another faith tradition, or someone who is Catholic but does not meet the Canon Law requirements.

1-Hour Baptism Preparation Seminar: The seminar is open to anyone who needs to participate in such a class. It is generally held the first Monday of the month from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in Madonna Hall (located in the northeast corner of the church). However, dates and times are subject to change, so please contact Angela Burchak by emailing her at If you prefer to leave her a phone message, please call the parish office at (619) 574-5708.
