Student Learning and Success

The values originally articulated by USD’s founders are reflected in the University's rich Catholic intellectual tradition. USD's community of scholars are committed to educating the whole person—intellectually, physically, spiritually, emotionally, socially, and culturally. The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Initiatives supports student learning and success in a variety of ways including by:

  • facilitating a university-wide assessment management system (TracDat/Nuventive Improve) that allows faculty and administrators to track student learning and success through the attainment of pre-determined benchmarks for student learning outcomes, program outcomes, core curriculum outcomes, co-curricular outcomes, and administrative unit outcomes;
  • supporting a WSCUC-aligned program review process that includes reporting on Student Learning and Effectiveness as measured using direct and indirect assessments: samples of students’ work, retention and graduation, student satisfaction surveys, graduate placements, and alumni achievement; and
  • documenting USD’s progress toward attaining the strategic plan goal of Enhancing Student Learning and Success.
