About the IESI

IESI Mission

The mission of the Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Initiatives (IESI) office is to demonstrate USD’s commitment to: student learning and success; high standards of quality and effectiveness in all of our educational activities; and institutional integrity, sustainability, and accountability.

These three areas of commitment are visible in the goals of our Envisioning 2024 strategic plan, in which USD will set the standard for an engaged, contemporary Catholic university by the year 2024, and are consistent with the values of our regional accreditor, the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).

We serve the USD community by:

  • Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting evidence of student learning to assess and improve student learning and teaching, including the assessment of Core Curriculum learning outcomes;
  • Coordinating and supporting academic program review;
  • Implementing USD’s strategic plan, Envisioning 2024, with direct oversight of the Mulvaney Center and anchor initiative pathway, the Changemaker Hub, and the Care for Our Common Home pathway;
  • Integrating USD’s strategic plan, Envisioning 2024, with important institutional quality processes (e.g. accreditation, assessment, planning, the strategic initiative funding program, and budgeting); and by
  • Overseeing our institutional accreditation with the WASC Senior College and University Commission with USD’s next reaffirmation scheduled for 2021.
