Crucial Conversations Workshop

Based on The New York Times bestselling book which has sold more than 3 million copies worldwide, Crucial Conversations training has transformed organizations and changed the way millions communicate. The Department of Human Resources is pleased to continue the Crucial Conversations training program here at USD.

When you’re not getting the results you seek, it’s likely a crucial conversation is keeping you stuck. Whether it’s a problem with poor quality, declining customer satisfaction, or a strained relationship, if you can’t talk honestly with nearly anybody about almost anything, you can expect poor results.

What Is a Crucial Conversation?
A crucial conversation is a discussion between two or more people where the stakes are high, opinions vary, and emotions run strong. These conversations—when handled poorly or ignored—lead to strained relationships and dismal results.

What Is Crucial Conversations® Training?
Crucial Conversations teaches skills for creating alignment and agreement by fostering open dialogue around high-stakes, emotional, or risky topics—at all levels of an organization. By learning how to speak and be heard (and encouraging others to do the same), you’ll surface the best ideas, make the highest-quality decisions, and then act on your decisions with unity and commitment.

What Does Crucial Conversations Training Teach?
Crucial Conversations teaches participants how to:
• Speak persuasively, not abrasively
• Foster teamwork and better decision making
• Build acceptance rather than resistance
• Resolve individual and group disagreements

Who Needs Crucial Conversations Training?
Do you struggle with taboo topics, deference, disagreement, analysis paralysis, information hoarding, office politics, or alienation? Is your team battling declining productivity, safety violations, low morale, reduced quality, poor customer satisfaction, or other bottom-line concerns? Then you or your team could benefit from Crucial Conversations Training.

How Much Does the Training Cost?
Public offerings of this training cost an average of $1,595, but we’re able to offer it to the USD community for the drastically reduced rate of $300 per employee. This fee, which covers various catering options each day of the program as well as the robust program materials all participants will receive, is due before the session via POETS code.

What Additional Resources are Available?
If you're unable to join us for a training program at this time, we want to encourage you to read the book. You might even consider starting a book club or discussion group. A list of discussion questions is available online to guide your discussion.
