The annual Community Picnic is our way of showing appreciation for our amazing employees. Faculty, staff, and administrative employees and their families are invited to this event filled with entertainment, games, contests, and delicious food.

Monday, June 4th

  • Bingo – Come join us in Salomon Hall from 12 – 1 PM for a chance to win some great prizes!
  • Fitbit Challenge – Stay tuned to our USD Fitbit group app for a message about this fun challenge! If you haven’t signed up for our USD Fitbit Challenges yet, please visit the USD Fitbit Program website.

Tuesday, June 5th

  • Amazing Race – Pick a partner and have some fun in this epic race that will lead teams on a trek throughout campus! Learn more and sign up for the race here.

USD Employee Amazing Race. Thursday, June 5th. 12 PM - 1 PM. Meet in front of Aromas. Register in teams of 2. Bit/ly/USDAmazingRace. An epic race that will lead teams on a trek throughout campus. At every destination, each team must complete a series of challenges, some mental and some physical, to determine their next location.

Wednesday, June 6th

  • Wellness Wednesday – Marino Wellness will be back on campus to offer employees a free 15-minute chair massage. Limit one per employee. Space is limited, please click here to reserve your preferred time.

Thursday, June 7th

  • Canvas Painting – Come get creative on the patio of La Gran Terraza from 5:30 – 6:30 PM! A professional artist will lead us step-by-step in recreating a featured painting. This event is for employees only and space is limited. Please RSVP for the canvas painting here.
  • Torero Thursday – Stop by La Gran Terraza and mingle with your USD colleagues from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Appetizers will be served and the first 50 to arrive can have a drink on us! This event is sponsored by University Operations and the Department of Human Resources.


Friday, June 8th

Community Backyard BBQ, Valley Field, 1:00 – 4:00 PM

  • Musical Chairs - Join us for Musical Chairs! We’ll be looking for eight kids ages 10 – 17 for the first game and 13 USD employees for the second game. You never know what to expect with this game, but it is pure entertainment. If you have never seen or played this game, you are in for a treat!
  • Photo Booth - The photo booth is back! Stop by the mobile photo booth with your family and friends and use the props to create a memory that will last a lifetime!
  • Lawn Games - Giant Jenga and Connect Four will be available to play!
  • For the Kids - Bring your little ones to the kids area to play in the Bounce House. It even has a slide! They can jump, slide, and wear themselves out! Parents and legal guardians are responsible for their children while using the Bounce House. 

Torero Cup

This competition will be the talk of Executive Cabinet meetings for the year ahead. University Relations is prepared to defend their title, but who will win bragging rights this year?


The Community of Human Resources (CHR@USD) 50/50 Raffle tickets will be on sale starting May 21st. You can purchase your tickets in the Department of Human Resources (Maher Hall, Room 101), from one of our CHR representatives, or on the day of the Picnic at the CHR table. Tickets are 2 for $1 or 12 for $5.

Employee Gift

Employee Gift Pick-up – This year, employees have the option to skip the line at the barbecue by picking up your gift earlier in the week! Stop by our table on Paseo de Colachis on Wednesday, June 6th or Thursday, June 7th from 10 AM – 12:30 PM and 3 – 4 PM to pick up your complimentary gift. Employee must be present and provide their USD ID. One gift per employee while supplies last.

Reminders for the Picnic:

  • RSVP for the picnic here by June 1st to be automatically entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of this year’s fun prizes! 
  • Per USD policy: no pets, please. (Service animals permitted.)
  • Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times to ensure your safety. Flip flips are not recommended.
  • Parking will be available in the Mission Parking Structure.
