Panhellenic Recruitment

The University of San Diego is currently home to seven Panhellenic sororities that offer multiple ways to explore potential membership, including both primary and informal recruitment processes. More information about these processes is included below. Primary Recruitment (early Spring)


Once a year, all seven Panhellenic sororities (or "chapters") participate in a primary recruitment process. Primary recruitment at USD is a fully structured, three-day process in which Potential New Members (women participating in recruitment, also known as PNMs) meet a small sample of current sorority women from all seven chapters and learn more about Panhellenic sorority life at USD. Each participant is connected to a recruitment counselor who serves as a resource and mentor throughout the experience, as well as with a group of peers who are going through the process together.

2021 Panhellenic Primary Recruitment will take place virtually on January 20-22. A brief orientation will be held virtually on the evening of January 19, and invitations to membership ("bids") will be extended virtually on the morning of January 23.

Primary Recruitment Registration

Step 1: Register!

Registration for Panhellenic primary recruitment is open from November 1, 2020 to January 4, 2021 at the following link: usdpanhellenic.mycampusdirector2.com. There is a one-time, flat rate of $20 to participate in the primary recruitment process; this fee is not due at registration, but charged to student accounts in the Spring 2021 semester.

Step 2: Connect with Panhellenic!

Follow the @usdpanhellenic Instagram to keep up with Panhellenic Council and the seven chapters. Prior to the start of primary recruitment and throughout the year, Panhellenic Council offers information sessions, opportunities to ask questions, and stories and insight from current sorority women.

Recruitment Requirements

To participate in Panhellenic primary recruitment:

  1. All students must complete the primary recruitment registration form.

  2. All students must have completed 12 units at USD prior to recruitment or 24 transfer units, and must have at least a 2.70 cumulative GPA at USD.

  3. All students must complete the New Student Wellness Modules:

    • Diversity Equity and Inclusion for Students

    • AlcoholEdu for College
    • Sexual Assault Prevention for College

There will be no exceptions made for units completed or GPA. Any GPA concerns must be addressed to Kristen Lemaster at klemaster@sandiego.edu. After primary recruitment registration has closed, the Fraternity and Sorority Life Office will conduct a comprehensive eligibility check and follow up with registered participants as needed. 

 

Informal Recruitment (Spring or Fall)


Informal recruitment (sometimes referred to as Continuous Open Bidding or COB) is another opportunity for women interested in joining a Panhellenic sorority to consider potential membership. 

Each semester, the Fraternity and Sorority Life Office works with the seven Panhellenic chapters to determine if any chapters have space on their rosters to recruit women outside of the primary recruitment process. With informal recruitment, typically not all seven chapters participate, and recruitment events are coordinated at the chapter level, not by the Panhellenic Council.

All students participating in informal recruitment must meet the same eligibility requirements as with primary recruitment: have completed 12 units at USD or 24 transfer units, have at least a 2.70 cumulative GPA at USD, and have completed the new student wellness modules.

Recruitment Rules


The following rules have been composed of NPC Unanimous Agreements, NPC Policies and recommendations for recruitment, ideas and previous rules discussed by the 2016-2017 Recruitment Chair women of the USD sororities. These rules were passed by a majority vote during the Spring Recruitment Meetings and ratified by vote of the Panhellenic Council. All chapters and their alumnae are expected to know, understand, and follow all of the recruitment rules. There is an overall expectation of maturity, respect, and Panhellenic friendship for all sorority members, throughout the year, and especially during primary recruitment.
