At the University of San Diego, we place great importance on providing students with the programs, experiences and support services necessary to achieve their full potential. The new Palomar Health Student Wellness Center at USD will set a new standard for inclusive wellness resources and NCAA practice facilities for our student athletes. The three-story, 80,000 square-foot facility will provide accessible indoor and outdoor spaces where the entire campus community can find connections between physical activity, diet and nutrition, mental health, inner self, engagement and belonging.

PREVIEW THE PALOMAR HEALTH STUDENT WELLNESS CENTER AT USD

The Palomar Health Student Wellness Center at USD features spaces dedicated to physical, mental and spiritual wellness. It also houses indoor and outdoor court facilities for organized athletics or casual team competitions. Critically, the center brings students from all backgrounds and experiences together in a welcoming space.

Outside, students have access to a variety of areas for exercise and training, games and recreation, as well as quiet places to enjoy sunshine and fresh air.

ENTRANCE AND LOBBY

The Palomar Health Student Wellness Center Lobby is a grand entrance that will feel inviting to students and athletes alike. The space is designed to be easily accessible, no matter where you are on campus. Large windows and thoughtful positioning will maximize the amount of sunlight that enters the space. Features include:

  • 2,500 square feet
  • The prominent entrance and lobby is located at street level, adjacent to main campus entrance, parking and Student Life Pavilion
  • Lobby, front desk and lounge area
  • Serves as a main thoroughfare to the Wellness Center’s cardio and group fitness areas

FITNESS AREA

The primary fitness area on the third level of the Palomar Health Student Wellness Center at USD will be the largest space on campus dedicated to exercise and physical well-being. Features include:

  • Approximately 10,000 total square feet
  • Prominent location near the main entrance of the Wellness Center
  • 3,850 square feet dedicated to cardio and flexible multi-use space
  • 2,500 square feet dedicated to flexible group fitness space with a retractable divider to accommodate smaller classes
  • Outdoor terrace
  • Large windows that showcase natural light and provide fresh air

WELLNESS WING

The Wellness Wing will be dedicated to supporting the mental and emotional resources needed for the challenges of college life and beyond. In addition to helping students cope with stress and develop emotional resilience, Palomar Health Student Wellness Center programs will also promote a sense of engagement and belonging that is crucial for student success. Features include:

  • 10,000 square feet for services, classes and collaboration
  • Health and wellness counseling and consultation offices
  • Space dedicated to quiet group exercises
  • Individual rooms for meditation, prayer, rest and reflection
  • Teaching kitchen for encouraging healthy eating habits, connecting diet with intellectual and physical energy and sharing how to make meals from different countries and cultures
  • Large outdoor terrace for exercises and informal gatherings
  • Rejuvenation stations for students to just be and de-stress

FITNESS WING

The largest component of the Palomar Health Student Wellness Center at USD, the Fitness Wing will offer extensive resources for a variety of physical exercises, activities and court-based sports. It will be USD’s largest and most comprehensive fitness facility. Features include:

  • 23,000 square feet spanning two levels
  • Nearly 10,000 square feet of space dedicated to physical and cardio fitness, including free weights, circuit and plyometric training, and areas focused on increasing flexibility, strength and stamina
  • Flexible rooms for martial arts, dance-oriented exercises and other fitness classes
  • 8,000 square foot multipurpose court
  • Picturesque outdoor terrace with 360-degree views of Alcalá Park
