Watch: A Special Video Tour of the Christ Exhibition

All good things must come to an end.

Michelangelo's rare drawing The Three Crosses and over 40 original works from Italian Renaissance artists have departed from the Hoehn Galleries at the University of San Diego. The exhibition Christ: Life, Death, and Resurrection not only touched on the university's Catholic identity, but helped advance the mission of the liberal arts by exposing students to some of the most inspiring works of art and culture ever created.

The exhibition, which ran from Sept. 13 - Dec. 15, represented the first time many of these works were displayed in the United States and brought in record-breaking attendance for the galleries. To help commemorate the occasion, the university has created a special 28-minute guided highlights tour of the exhibition with John Murphy, PhD.

Murphy, Hoehn Curatorial Fellow for Prints at USD, shares insights on eight works that take different approaches in depicting the life of Christ. These works include: The Nativity by Gregorio de' Ferrari; The Adoration of the Magi attributed to Francesco Roselli; The Three Crosses by Michelangelo Buonarroti; The Crucifixion by Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione; The Lamentation by Jacopo di Giovanni di Francesco (Jacone); Christ as the Man of Sorrows by the Florentine School; The Risen Christ by Jacopo de' Barbari; and The Ascension by Lattanzio Gambara.
