University Ministry can help you answer these and other big questions.
Retreats, local service projects, immersion trips, faith-sharing communities, and student Masses are just a few of the many dynamic programs sponsored by University Ministry. All students, regardless of their religious background, are welcome to attend each of our programs.
Committed to the truth that we are better when we are together in community, University Ministry welcomes all students to participate in the vibrant, inclusive and joyous faith community on campus. UM is a place to believe, to belong, and to become.
Guided by the Catholic sacramental imagination, which seeks to recognize God’s movement in the midst of all things, the University Ministry team strives to assist students to live intentionally, growing in their abilities for contemplation, reflection, and prayer. Similarly, guided by a deep appreciation for solidarity, UM invites USD students to become contemplatives in action, offering their gifts and talents on behalf of the university, local, and global communities.
Getting involved with University Ministry is easy. All you have to do is show up! We will be happy to welcome you at any of our programs, masses, or service projects. If you would like to get involved but aren’t sure how or where to begin, here are a few ideas…
|Contact your Resident Minister||At least one Resident Minister lives in each living area on campus. RMs are great resources and can provide you with all sorts of information about how to get involved. RMs are also great people to talk with if you’re feeling homesick or struggling to find your place at USD.|
|Stop by the University Ministry Center||
We are located in University Center 238. Feel free to stop by anytime to chat, sign-up for one of our programs, or to learn more about what we offer.
|Attend a Mass in Founders Chapel||
All are welcome! Whether or not you are Catholic, we would love to have you join us for a Sunday night mass, our daily 12:15 Mass, or the Mass for Peace on Wednesday night.
|Spend the day in Tijuana||
Each month we sponsor a daylong service experience in Tijuana. These experiences are safe, fun, and a great way to meet new friends, both at USD and in Mexico.
|Join the Founders Chapel Choir||
You do not have to be a trained musician to be a part of this fun and joyful group. All vocalists and instrumentalists are welcome to attend. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings.
|Help at Mass||We are always looking for students who can help us by serving as Eucharistic ministers, lectors, hospitality ministers, cross bearers, gift bearers and altar servers. No experience is necessary! We will provide you with the training you need.|
|Talk with a University Minister||
In addition to the programs we sponsor, University Ministers are available to talk with you, to offer spiritual guidance, and/or to help you reflect on what you are experiencing at USD. You can simply stop by one of our offices or you can set up an appointment by calling (619) 260-4735.
If you are interested in learning more about any of these programs, call the University Ministry Center at (619) 260-4735 to get more information or to get connected.
"Since my first year at USD, University Ministry has provided a faith experience like no other. From helping to form incredible relationships to experiencing spirituality all over the world, I am so grateful for all that University Ministry has done to help me discern who I am being called to be."
Liturgy is at the heart of USD's faith community. We bring our lives together in prayer each Sunday and at major university celebrations.
