7th Annual Action Research Conference

Friday, May 14, 2010
8:45 am to 6:00 pm

Saturday, May 15, 2010
8:30 am to 5:00 pm

The theme for this year's event is "Empowerment and action research: Personal growth, professional development, and social change in educational and community settings." The ‘family’ of action research includes a diverse collection of orientations and methods related to personal growth, professional development, and social change. A common feature in all the orientations is empowerment. This year’s USD Action Research Conference takes up the theme of empowerment in action research at the personal, professional, and political levels.

Interest in action research is growing around the world and the USD School of Leadership and Education Sciences Action Research Conference (ARC) has been created to serve this growing interest and to link faculty, students, and practitioners in an action research professional learning community.

Register now and have the opportunity to learn about the first North American CARN Study Day from Jack Whitehead, PhD.

CARN’s first North American Study Day will take place May 13, 2010, at various locations in the San Diego area. The Action Research Conference keynote speaker and world-renowned action research expert, Jack Whitehead, PhD, along with USD faculty and a limited number of conference participants will visit three San Diego County project sites currently engaged in conducting action research in education. The site visits will include interaction with practitioners utilizing action research to address strengthening practice in teaching, counseling, or educational leadership. The day will conclude with the Action Research Conference pre-conference seminar (free to all paid attendees) at which Whitehead will reflect on the experiences and observations of the day and will facilitate discussion of action research and empowerment.

Your registration fee includes the pre-conference workshop and all sessions during the two day event as well as breakfasts, refreshment breaks, lunches, and reception. Sessions will provide opportunities to learn about the methodology and rigor of action research and network with experts with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
