Law School is for Everyone

USD School of Law is a proud supporter of the Law School Admission Council’s (LSAC) Discover Law initiative which encourages diverse students to discover opportunities in law. Throughout the year, Discover Law offers events and programs to promote access to legal education, providing path-to-law school resources for diverse high school, community college, and undergraduate students.

SUPPORT DIVERSITY

The Law Student Diversity Fund at USD School of Law provides academic support programs and support for student organizations committed to achieving greater diversity, equity and, inclusion, including racial, ethnic, gender, nationality, or sexual orientation within the law school and in the legal profession—as a vital part of the law school culture and educational environment. Providing a more rounded and more inclusive culture for students at USD is the goal of the Law Student Diversity Fund and the essential first step in enhancing the overall experience and engagement of all students.

Access to justice is essential for a democratic society, and diversity in the legal profession increases the likelihood of access for people from an increasingly diverse population.  Law school diversity enables individuals from a wide range of backgrounds to add their perspectives to the greater legal community.

Support Diversity
at
USD School of Law

Your support of diverse student organizations creates new opportunities, enhances program offerings, and leads to better student engagement and retention at USD School of Law. Campus culture and climate are important elements in ensuring exposure to and interaction with different perspectives. By providing intentional support for academic support programs and diverse student organizations, the Law Student Diversity Fund is an important tool to increase social involvement as a means to facilitate engagement with different perspectives to achieve a richer, more well-rounded and comprehensive law school experience.

Student organizations that both represent diversity and are committed to inclusive excellence serve as positive and relatable role models and mentors for an increasingly diverse student population. They lay the foundation to encourage diversity efforts to take root and grow in the law school community and within the entire legal profession.  By developing collaborative programmatic opportunities with minority and other specialty bar associations, members of USD’s diverse student organizations witness the advantages of practicing law with their colleagues in any legal community.
