Join Dean Noelle Norton and Satyan Devadoss, Fletcher Jones Chair and Professor of Mathematics, as they "travel" across the country to meet local Toreros from the Bay Area and present on the topic of diversity, equity and inclusion as it relates to technology and mathematics.

    Diversity in Technology and Mathematics
Wednesday, April 21 from 5:30-6:30 PM PT
    Zoom Room (register for link)

Satyan Devadoss will address the intersections of technology, mathematics, and the art of being human. Over the past century, mathematics has deeply embraced abstract thinking, making it the foundation of scientific achievements. And with the meteoric rise of technology, made prevalent by Covid-19, mathematicians have been propelled to positions of great influence. All of this has come at a dangerous cost, with measurability replacing complexity and the mind replacing the body. Through the lens of diversity and equity, mathematics can play a redeeming role in making us more human once again.

In addition to Professor Devadoss' presentation, this event will feature an update on College news and advancements from Dean Norton as well as the opportunity to network and build community with alumni from the area.

We look forward to seeing you on the road.

Special bonus- Rep your Torero Pride! All in attendance will receive a $20 gift card to the USD Torero Store.

This event is co-sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences and the Bay Area Torero Club.
