Judith Daar is a Visiting Professor at UCLA School of Law, teaching Wills and Trusts. She is the former Interim Dean and Professor of Law at Whittier Law School and currently holds a joint appointment as Clinical Professor of Medicine at UC Irvine School of Medicine.

Her scholarship focuses in the area of reproductive technologies, where she has authored numerous articles on topics including stem cell research, human cloning, frozen embryo disputes, surrogate parenting arrangements, the use of genetic technologies and the regulation of reproductive medicine. The second edition of her book, Reproductive Technologies and the Law, was published in 2013. Yale University Press published her most recent book in 2017, The New Eugenics: Selective Breeding in an Era of Reproductive Medicine.

Daar received her B.A. from the University of Michigan and her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.  She taught Legal Research and Writing as a lecturer at UCLA Law School from 1987-1990, and as a visitor here last taught Wills and Trusts. At Whittier, Daar served as the Interim Dean from 2016-2017, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs  from 2008-2012, and was voted “Teacher of the Year” by the Whittier Law School student body in 2002.

In 2014, Daar was appointed Chair of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine Ethics Committee and was reappointed to a three-year term in 2017. In 2012, she was elected to the American Law Institute. She serves as a member of the UCI Medical Center Medical Ethics Committee and has also sat as a member of the Harbor-UCLA Hospital Institutional Review Board, and the ABA Coordinating Group on Bioethics. She also served as the co-chair of the ABA Section on Real Property, Trust and Estate Law, Bioethics Committee. Daar was twice elected President of the American Society of Law, Medicine & Ethics, a Boston-based interdisciplinary society devoted to exploring the intersection of law, science and ethics.
