Community Activists Leroy Moore and Tiny Garcia will be visiting USD to hold an interactive presentation on topics from Tiny Garcia’s most recent co-authored book, Poverty Scholarship: Poor People-Led Theory, Art, Words, and Tears Across Mama Earth.

Here, they will discuss how poverty scholarship was born in the streets, prisons, street corners, community centers, and more — all of which are places people don’t look for educators, experts, leaders, researchers, lecturers, linguists, artists and others. With this book and this interactive presentation, Leroy and Tiny will be talking about poverty scholarship and its proper place so that crucial lived knowledge can be recognized and understood, and poverty, anti-poor people criminalization, violence and exploitation can end.
