Valley Field

5998 Alcala Park San Diego, CA 92110

This ceremony is conducted in order to recognize the exceptional academic and military achievements and extraordinary leadership skills of the midshipmen, Officer Candidates, and Marines of NROTC San Diego.

Present-day naval parades have their basis in both history and tradition; the massed formation of troops in one long line at close interval allowed the massing of firepower from the muzzle-loaded muskets of prior centuries. This tradition has continued on through today as a means of displaying the prowess and strength of many units in the United States’ armed forces across the country.

The culmination of the ceremony takes place as the formation marches in unison past the Commanding Officer for his or her review. The Pass-in-Review is an annual ceremony that ties the time honored naval traditions while honoring the accomplishments of several exemplary battalion members.
