The USD Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry presents the Summer Research Symposium on Wednesday, July 24 from 1-5:30 p.m. in Mother Rosalie Hill Hall's Warren Auditorium. Speakers, including three who are USD alumni, will share their expertise on a specific topic related to their research.

This event is not open to the public beyond invited guests and is meant to be for USD students and faculty who are on campus doing research this summer. 

Here's the schedule, following welcome remarks:

1 p.m. — Dr. Ashley Parks '08, Southern California Coastal Water Research Project (SCCWRP)

Topic: Influence of dissolved organochlorines on bioaccumulation in San Diego Bay, California.

1:30 p.m. — Jessica Moreton, UC San Diego

Topic: Function through Form: Turning Particles into Protectants.

2 p.m. — Dr. Shannen Cravens '11, Gonzaga University

Topic: DNA Literacy: How do proteins “read” our cellular blueprint?

2:30-3 p.m. Break

3 p.m. — Dr. Nicholas Salzameda '01, California State University, Fullerton

Topic: Disrupting protein-protein interactions to fight human disease.

3:30 p.m. — Keynote Speaker: Dr. Jennifer Prescher, UC Irvine

Topic: Seeing is Believing: Illuminating cells with bioluminescent probes.

4:30 p.m. — Student Poster Session, Hilton Loggia

5:30 p.m. — Symposium Ends
