Human Rights Day is December 10, and this year marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a document that proclaimed the inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being — regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. It is the most translated document in the world, available in more than 500 languages.

To recognize this milestone, the Kroc School is hosting a timely discussion featuring three human rights defenders, who are also current or former Kroc School students: Casey Meyer, Veronica Musa, and Janice Deaton.

Kroc School Professor Dustin Sharp will ask them revealing questions about their experiences on the frontlines, and on the future of human rights. Key questions will relate to:

  • their careers as human rights defenders
  • where they see human rights advocacy going in the future given the changing political landscape in many parts of the world
  • the new challenges they see on the horizon, and how the human rights community needs to adapt

Attendees will learn about the struggle of human rights defenders to make a difference both before and after life at USD. And, you'll get a better sense of the challenges on the horizon for human rights defenders and tips for starting a career in human rights.

Join us to learn from these courageous leaders on December 10 in KIPJ Room D at 12:15 p.m., and take a small step towards helping 2019 become the most impactful year yet for human rights.
