My Story: Badass Women Edition (Student event)

This event engages students and is well respected at USD. The event, known as “My Story,” began in 2014 when a young freshman student felt there was a severe lack of authenticity and, in turn, empathy on campus — she took this issue head on and decided to drive forward the change she wanted to see. The result was “My Story”.

The event’s purpose is to encourage students to tell their own story in the hopes that a stronger, more cohesive, and understanding community is built. “My Story” found immediate success with nearly 100 students attending the initial event, and audiences have grown in the years since then. It has solidified itself as a must-attend event on the USD calendar with a wide range of speakers including student body presidents, notable faculty members, and other inspiring individuals in San Diego. The success has been telling — USD and the San Diego community needed this platform to build empathy and understanding.

With this exciting partnership, the Changemaker Hub and the Kroc IPJ will utilize some of their greatest assets to reach all individuals on USD’s campus. The event will offer unprecedented insight into these women’s stories, which will focus on a single, profound point in their lives. The women will follow in the footsteps of all student presenters before them, telling the story of this poignant moment, which will highlight for USD students that remarkable change can begin unexpectedly.
