The goal is simple - to have 81 members in the band for basketball games and become the Largest Band in the Land.

Yes, that's why the basketball band will now be known as "The 81".

The Toreros want to be home to the largest, loudest and most electric band in the country.

"But why would I join the band?"

Why not? And ...

» Perform at home basketball games.

» Free Vegas trip during the spring semester.

» Earn fine arts core credit.

» Convenient rehearsal schedule.

» Part of USD's iPad program.

Who's encouraged to join?

Any and all Toreros with any level of musical background. (Dust off that old trumpet from high school. We'll make room for you.)

Students interested in joining The 81 are encouraged to attend the Band and Basketball Tip Off on Monday, Oct. 16 at the JCP at 6 p.m. Come for information, listen to some music, join in at practice, or, just eat pizza with the group afterward.

You can give us a heads up you're coming. Or, just show up if you prefer. We're cool with either.
