The Center for Peace and Commerce has run the Social Innovation Challenge since 2011. We are passionate about our "local impact track" and want to grow it in a way that allows students to co-design innovations with community members. We have seen a few co-designed innovations happen organically but believe we can foster more with a combination of 1) education about issues impacting San Diego neighborhoods 2) development of empathy around issues that are common to all human beings (ex. loneliness) and 3) design thinking. Co-designing is harder and takes a long-term vision, but it is essential to the innovation pursuits of a Catholic center for learning which is an anchor institution and a changemaker campus. Come join a panel of San Diegans who will speak to our city neighborhoods, their assets, and challenges.
