Food often serves as a tool for an embodied sense of belonging and bridges divides amongst populations of various ethnic, racial etc. backgrounds. Come create community cookbooks with longtime San Diegan and community activist, Irene Catruita, whose work centers around the food as a gateway to understanding broader systems of oppression. You will have the opportunity to learn and explore what food justice looks like and how food and nourishment can be used as a method of self-determination, empowerment, and self-care. Though you may not have much access to cooking as a first-year student, this session will give you the opportunity to consider how to intentionally choose healthy options and build community through shared meals!
