Western societies’ construction of gender and sexuality reflects a binary understanding that clashes with first peoples of the Americas. The dominant system’s impact varies depending on how each tribal nation experienced colonization. This conversation brings indigenous scholars from the United States and Canada together to reflect on the cultural, social, historical and current impact of colonization on identity fluidity present in indigenous communities.
