Every nation claims the authority to control and limit who crosses its borders. But does this claim of authority stand up to moral scrutiny? What would happen if we thought of free migration as a basic human right, and held all nations responsible for respecting it? Is a policy of “open borders” a moral imperative? Or would open borders be a moral and economic disaster?
