Volunteer Engagement is 1/3 part magic, 1/3 part match making and 1/3 conflict resolution. Depending on where you are working with volunteers, any of the three ingredients will take over the others. In this session you will learn about the benefits of volunteers, matching volunteers into roles based on their strengths and how to handle tough conversations with volunteers.

About the Speaker:
Adina Veen is a dedicated and loving wife, mom and volunteer manager. A proclaimed nonprofit nerd and possibly one of the most passionate soccer fans in all of San Diego. Adina is committed to our community, empowering others and sharing laughter with anyone and everyone. She is pleased to have been in beautiful San Diego for 16 years. She attended undergrad at San Diego State University and completed her Masters in Nonprofit Management and Leadership at USD. She is a long time member of the Junior League of San Diego, which jump-started her career into the nonprofit sector. For nine years she has worked in San Diego nonprofits with the majority of her time focused on Volunteer Management. In 2005, she got her start in nonprofits, at United Way of San Diego County (UWSD) as a Campaign Account Representative. She spent the majority of her career at Girl Scouts, managing volunteers, focusing on government relations and fund development. In 2012 she completed the National Hispania Leadership Institute, Nonprofit Leaders program and has volunteered with other nonprofits throughout San Diego. She joined UWSD staff again in 2013 as the Volunteer Engagement Manager where she continues to train other leaders in the nonprofit sector on volunteer management. Adina recently got accepted to LEAD San Diego’s 2015 IMPACT class and is excited to broaden her impact on the San Diego region.
