C. Otto Scharmer, PhD, author of Theory U and co-author of Presence, visits the University of San Diego School of Leadership and Education Sciences on Monday, April 16, 2012.

Scharmer will present the core principles of Presencing and situate them in the context of the current transformation of capitalism from an economy driven by ego-system awareness to one that is inspired and powered by eco-system awareness.

Scharmer is the founding chair of the Presencing Institute where his work is focused on creating a global awareness-based action research community for profound societal innovation and change. The presencing process is a journey that connects us more deeply both to what wants to emerge in the world and to our emerging, higher self.

A senior lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Scharmer holds a PhD in economics and management from Witten-Herdecke University in Germany. He is a core faculty member of the UN Leaders Program (at the UN Staff College) and chairs the MIT IDEAS program. With his colleagues, he has used presencing to facilitate profound innovation and change in health, education, sustainability, and business systems.
