Halaka’s project employs the tools of oral history, photography and drawing to investigate the existential threats undermining the agrarian traditions of Palestine and the livelihood of its farmers. Through first-person narratives from Palestinian farmers and agronomists, he observed how economic, environmental and cultural pressures, greatly exacerbated by a 52-year military occupation, have severely restricted the effectiveness of Palestine’s once-thriving agrarian culture.
