The competition is free and open to all undergraduates in the United States and Canada, regardless of major. The competition consists of two periods of exactly three hours each (8-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m.) with a two hour (free lunch) break between the two sessions. All contestants must not have received a college degree prior to the date of the examination and must not have participated more than three times in the past.
