Details

Highly acclaimed cinematic version of Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen. Julia Migenes-Johnson's freckled, gamine Carmen is the chief glory of the production. Her strutting, her dark, messy, frizzy hair—her sexual availability—attract the soldier Don José (Plácido Domingo) and lead to an obsession with her.

To please her, he leaves behind his childhood sweetheart, his good name, and deserts the Army. In the end, when he has lost everything that once meant something to him, he realizes that she is now focused solely on her new conquest, the toreador Escamillo. For this, he murders her.

Listen: Chanson Bohème (Carmen), La fleur que tu m'avais jetée (Don José), Duettino (Carmen and Escamillo)
