Traci Roberts-Camps is professor of Latin American Literature and Film and chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Literature at the University of the Pacific. In this lecture, she will present on the works of women filmmakers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico from her recent book Latin American Women Filmmakers: Social and Cultural Perspectives. The directors in this study challenge societal norms such as heteronormativity, ethnocentricity, sexism, and socioeconomic discrimination and defy institutions such as repressive governments, patriarchal social structures, and an oppressive church. Each of the directors exemplify a unique way of combining form and content in their films.
