Marcel Smits, Head of Corporate Strategy and Chairman of Asia Pacific, Cargill
“Anticipating and Navigating Global Change for an Industry Leader”

Cargill is a leader in the food and agriculture industry and connects regions of agricultural surplus with regions of deficit, buying from farmers and often connecting them to customers on the other side of the world. Cargill buys, stores, transports, sells and processes commodities like corn, wheat and soybeans in 70 countries around the world. It is one of the largest meat producers in the world and has financial services and risk-taking activities to complement its offering.

The food and agriculture industry is facing momentous change with consumers rapidly shifting their preferences, stakeholders demanding more reassurance about sustainability, hedge funds looking to take a part of the action in risk management and venture capital pouring lots of money into disruptive new technologies. Cargill is rapidly changing in order to effectively participate in the new paradigms. About 120 strategy and mergers and acquisitions professionals are helping Cargill navigate the new world.

Marcel Smits, Cargill’s chairman of Asia Pacific and leader of its global strategy and corporate development department, will speak about the changes in the industry and how Cargill is positioning itself for success for decades to come.
