Data and analytics has the potential to impact economies and create new revenue sources. Governments, manufacturers, bankers, nonprofits and other industries are building new digital systems to transform products and services. As a result, global demand for data engineers, data scientists and business analysts may far exceed available talent supply. As the same time, there may be inequities that arise from these transformations. This workshop will examine how we can work to minimize societal trauma while maximizing opportunities for all.

Joseph Bugajski leads global data and analytics research for Gartner, where he provides guidance to chief data and analytics officers (CDOs), chief information officers (CIO) and CEOs. His group covers data and analytics strategy, management and infrastructure, business analytics, business intelligence and data discovery. His personal research interests span data and analytics organizations and advanced analytics. Bugajski is industry advisor to MIT’s Chief Data Officer program that he co-founded with Professor Rich Wang of MIT. In addition, he is emeritus chair of the finance task force of Object Management Group (OMG).

Prior to Gartner, Bugajski was Visa International’s Chief Data Officer, with global responsibility for the near-faultless operation of VisaNet, the world’s largest payment network. His programs at Visa added $2 billion annual payment volume. Before becoming CDO, Bugajski was chief system architect and resident entrepreneur responsible for Visa’s back-office, billing, risk, business intelligence and analytics solutions. Prior to joining Visa, Bugajski was CEO of Triada, a global data analytics software provider.
