Community Projects
The Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering is committed to being an anchor institution for our community. Students who select a community-focused project for their capstone experience work with mentors from non-profits or community groups to collaboratively develop engineering solutions. Previous projects include the design of an autonomous boat for cleaning ocean trash and a device for converting banana fibers into composite plastics. These projects allow students to develop their engineering skills solving problems that will have a positive impact on their community.
