Entrepreneurship Awards & Competitions

A city bubbling with innovation and entrepreneurship.

San Diego is ranked as one of the top cities for tech startups, with booming and energizing technology clusters in software, robotics, medical devices, electronics and our blue economy. And through USD’s Etrack Engineering Entrepreneurship Program, startups and social enterprises flourish, emphasizing curiosity, connections and creating value to build a new world economy — one that not only creates jobs and builds wealth, but also solves pressing societal issues and improves lives.

TECh: Torero Entrepreneurship Challenge

The Torero Entrepreneurship Challenge (TECh) is a new entrepreneurial competition designed to engage, educate, mentor and award technology innovators. With generous gifts from entrepreneurial and technology leaders, USD's Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering now offers two new Technology Track awards — the Larry Kull Endowed Student Award in Engineering and Entrepreneuership and the Starpoint Award — designed to reward game-changing projects that embody technological innovation.

From the TECh Orientation Session in the fall through the TECh Competion in spring, budding entrepreneurs will be guided down a proven entrepreneurial path to sharpen their venture-building skills — leading ultimately to an opportunity to be awarded up to $45,000 in prize money.
