Competition Projects

Student design competitions provide a platform for student teams to compete with other colleges in developing solutions to a range of design problems. Challenges range from everyday household tasks to groundbreaking space exploration. Each team is required to design, construct and operate a prototype meeting the requirements of an annually determined problem statement, and compete in an intercollegiate regional and/or national competition. The most popular competition project at USD is the Society of Automotive Engineers Mini-Baja competition. On this project over a dozen students spend two semesters designing, fabricating, testing and ultimately competing with an off-road vehicle.
