Amit Kakkad is a faculty member in USD’s School of Business, and provides strategic direction and oversight for Center for Peace and Commerce's initiatives that focus on preparing new generations of changemakers to build a sustainable world through innovative thinking and action, integrating business principles and effective management with ideas for building peace, reducing poverty and creating positive social change by bringing together four key parts of the society: for-profit sector, nonprofit sector, policymakers and the general population. His research interests include sustainable social enterprises, new service design and service innovation processes and the antecedents to service innovation; customer input as a driver of service innovation; and exploration of service creation, delivery and recovery processes from an empirical as well as an analytical point of view through case studies, surveys and experiments.

Kakkad teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in operations management and management science at USD and has previously taught courses in simulation, statistics and operations management at other institutes such as the London School of Economics. He has considerable corporate and startup experience gained in the United States, United Kingdom and India in industries ranging from oil and gas, chemical production, infrastructure, hospitality and entertainment and logistics; to telecom, financial services and consulting. He frequently engages with industry for research and consulting and is actively involved in the nonprofit sector. Previously, Kakkad has served on the boards of three nonprofit organizations in Europe and is focused on building and supporting an eco-system for social enterprises.
