New CDC Health Alerts and Governor’s New Direction

Dear USD Campus Community:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued today new Level 3 travel health notices for the United Kingdom and Ireland.

As a result of these new developments, we ask for the full cooperation from members of the USD community on the following:

  1. We strongly encourage students living on campus to accelerate their moving plans and relocate as soon as possible. While students do have until March 22 to relocate from their residence halls, given that this health emergency is dynamic and rapidly changing, we need you to cooperate so that we can better prepare for the inevitable, expediential growth of this virus in our region in the coming days and weeks;
  2. If you have traveled to China, Europe (including the United Kingdom and Ireland), Iran or South Korea (Level 3 Travel Health Notice) and returned to the United States within the past 14 days, you need to self-monitor for symptoms and self-quarantine for 14 days following arrival to the United States. If this applies to you, please review these instructions;
  3. California Governor Gavin Newsom today directed the immediate shutdown of bars, nightclubs, brew pubs and wineries to help stop the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Therefore, the La Gran Terraza and O'Toole's will be closed beginning Monday, March 16. Effective Tuesday, March 17, all meal plan meals will be available in grab-and-go boxes.

Thank you to all members of our community for doing your part to support campus well-being. We will continue to provide updates and new guidance as the health emergency evolves. Please continue to monitor the USD Coronavirus (COVID-19) website.

Sincerely,

COVID-19 Action Team
