In the Event of a ‘Shelter-in-Place’ Directive

Dear USD Campus Community:

Following the March 16 guidance from the State of California, a number of counties across the state have introduced shelter-in-place mandates. Anticipating that more counties will follow, we wanted to share an example of what shelter in place generally means based on information released in San Francisco and its surrounding counties.

As a campus, we have already taken steps in this direction with our remote teaching transition and our remote work plans. Shelter in place orders do not affect our ability to keep our campus operations open and running through remote work and remote teaching. It may require us to further restrict campus access to only essential department employees, such as facilities and all health and public safety services.

We are hopeful, as was the case in the counties in Northern California, that faculty will continue to have the option to teach remotely from their homes or their campus offices and classrooms, unless we receive different direction from the county.

In the event the county issues an order to shelter in place, we will send you specific direction and adjust our plans accordingly.

Thank you to our amazing students for their cooperation and swift action in relocating off campus, and to our dedicated faculty, deans and staff for their tireless work during this unprecedented health emergency.

Sincerely,

COVID-19 Action Team
