Details

DeZell Lathon is a Theatre/Performing Arts major at USD who writes, acts, directs and runs his production company, Deeply Rooted.

He will screen his 5-minute interview with Deja Scott, an African American woman, in which she conveys her thoughts on what it was like to study in Rome.

After the film, Mr. Lathon will speak about his own time there and how it relates to a person of color study abroad experience.

The mission of Deeply Rooted is to diversify entertainment by: creating original stories that speak to marginalized communities based on gender, ethnicity, economic status, sexuality or religion; producing creative works for television, theatre and film that have a high standard of quality; educating both audiences and the community of the ongoing issues that are presented within the creative works and providing a space for creators to explore their creative voices in a safe and supportive environment.

Sponsored by the Black Student Union, the Italian Culture and Language Organization, and the Italian Program of the Department of Languages, Cultures and Literatures.
