A 2012 survey cited in a report by the National Council on Teacher Quality found that over 40 percent of new teachers reported feeling either “not at all prepared” or “only somewhat prepared” to handle a range of classroom management or discipline situations. The same report said it was “the top problem” identified by teachers.

I’m Ed DeRoche and this is “50 Minutes.” In this program we will discuss 5 questions about character and character education.

  • WHAT is character? WHAT is character education?
  • WHY do we need character education in our schools?
  • WHY do we (CERC) use an umbrella metaphor to describe character education?
  • WHERE can you get instructional resources for teaching your students about character?
