Important Information for January and August Graduates

January Graduates

January graduates and their guests are invited to attend the Midyear Graduates' Mass:

Mid-year Graduates' Mass
Friday, December 15 at 4 p.m.
Founders Chapel, Founders Hall

January graduates are also encouraged to participate in May Commencement ceremonies.

  • You are eligible to participate once your degree has posted to your transcript and you have received your diploma by mail
  • Visit the GradFest page for information on ordering cap and gown, name pronunciation, and other commencement-related preparations

If you have questions about your eligibility, visit the Office of the Registrar website or email or call (619) 260-2888.

August Graduates

August graduates may participate in May Commencement if they have registered and paid for their remaining courses through University of San Diego Summer Sessions by May 1.

August graduates must visit the One Stop table at Grad Fest II or visit the One Stop during normal business hours in UC 126 to complete a Summer Graduation Clearance form in order to pick-up your cap and gown and tickets.

Remaining courses must be taken at USD. Courses taken in USD's sponsored Summer Study Abroad programs meet the requirement for courses taken at USD.

The following are not grounds for an exception:

  • unavailability of a needed course in USD’s Summer Sessions
  • Independent Study (499) during the summer
  • Courses taken elsewhere

In the case of extraordinary circumstances beyond a student’s control, an exception might be granted. Students should contact their dean.

In cases where financial aid is involved in attending USD Summer Sessions, an application must be filed by the date listed in the academic calendar, so that the request can be processed before May 1. Financial Aid applications for USD Summer Sessions will be available in the Financial Aid Office on or after February 1.
