Families and Guests

The weekend isn't complete without families and friends joining us in celebrating USD's newest Torero graduates! Find the info you need here.

The graduating student is responsible for completing the following items:

  1. Petition to graduate through MySanDiego Portal.
  2. Order regalia (cap and gown) at Grad Fest I event or online.
  3. Pick up seven (7) tickets at Grad Fest II or at JCP Ticket Office (tickets are only required for undergraduate ceremonies; tickets are not required for other ceremonies).

Parking and Tram Service

The USD campus is located off Linda Vista Road. Guests may enter campus from the east (Main Entrance) or west (West Entrance). See campus map. Parking personnel at each entrance will direct guests to parking areas located in the Mission Parking Structure just inside the east entrance. Parking is also available on the west side of campus in the West Parking Structure. Guests are encouraged to arrive at least one hour before ceremony start-time to avoid traffic congestion. USD tram service will shuttle graduates and guests to and from the Mission and West parking structures and the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

Please note the following:

  • Parking is complimentary for all commencement ceremonies and activities.
  • Parking will not be permitted on Santa Ana Drive after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of commencement weekend.
  • Vehicles will not be permitted to offload passengers on Santa Ana Drive during commencement.
  • Ridesharing (Uber, Lyft, etc.) drop-off will be at the Vista Alcala Apartments parking lot.

Parking for Guests with Disabilities

Vehicles displaying a DMV-issued disabled person parking placard or license plate will be directed by parking personnel to park in a reserved area on the third floor of the Mission Parking Structure. Tram service will be provided for all disabled and elderly guests to and from this area and the Jenny Craig Pavilion as well as to and from the post-ceremony receptions and the third floor of the Mission Parking Structure.

If a temporary disabled parking permit is needed, please contact the Office of Parking Services by May 1 at (619) 260-4518 or email parking@sandiego.edu.

Please note that guests that are disabled can be dropped off at the roundabout in front of the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Please alert the Public Safety officer of your intention to do so.

Special Needs Accommodation, Tickets and Seating for Guests with Disabilities

The Jenny Craig Pavilion opens one hour before each Commencement ceremony start-time. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. All guests attending the undergraduate ceremonies must have a ticket to enter the pavilion. 

Guests who are hearing impaired may request special seating from a commencement usher. Disabled guests may request from a commencement usher that a companion sits with them. Video screens are located on either side of the pavilion.

Overflow Viewing

Guests who do not have a ticket for the ceremonies are still able to join in the celebration. Overflow viewing rooms will be located in the Hahn University Center, Forums A-C, as well as in Frank's Lounge, where a live feed will be shown of each ceremony.

The University of San Diego’s open and FREE wireless network, usdguest, is available across campus for guests.

Hotel Accommodations

Guests are encouraged to make hotel reservations early, as thousands of families will be traveling to San Diego during these weekends.

La Gran Terraza

La Gran Terraza is USD's own bistro serving local and sustainable California cuisine. Located inside the Hahn University Center, it will be open for Sunday brunch (10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.). Advance reservations are recommended and can be made online at www.lagranterraza.com. For parties of 10 persons or more, please make reservations by calling the restaurant directly at (619) 849-8205.

Tu Mercado

Tu Mercado is a natural foods grocery store, deli, coffee bar and spirit shop located on the second floor of the Student Life Pavilion, and will be open from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m on Saturday and Sunday.

Flowers and Leis

LeiOrchid leis and roses are available for purchase before each Commencement ceremony. A percentage of all sales supports ongoing university programs. Flowers can be reserved online at www.graduationleis.com and picked up in Eagan Plaza in front of the Jenny Craig Pavilion on the day of the ceremony. Commencement Photos

Student with diplomaGrad Images Photography will be taking photographs of each graduate on stage during the commencement ceremonies. Each graduate will be sent proofs of the commencement photographs via email and/or text after the event. Proofs will also be sent via postal mail. You will have the opportunity to purchase prints after you have seen your proofs.

Prior to the ceremony, visit www.gradimages.com/preregistration. Graduation Gifts and Memorabilia

Memorabilia on display

Information about graduation gifts, diploma frames, regalia (cap and gown), announcements, class rings, and alumni merchandise can be found on the USD Torero Store’s website, www.usdtorerostores.com. USD Torero Store is located inside the Hahn University Center, and will be open Saturday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Parent and Family Relations

Parents and families of graduates can find additional information on the Parent and Family Relations website, www.sandiego.edu/parents. An informational packet is sent to parents via email in February. Please contact parents@sandiego.edu if you have not received an email by the end of February.
